Hybrid Heat Pumps
Combine a heat pump with your existing boiler for maximum flexibility — the system automatically switches to whichever is most efficient at any given time.
What Is a Hybrid Heat Pump?
A hybrid heat pump system pairs an air source heat pump with your existing gas or oil boiler. An intelligent controller monitors outdoor temperatures and energy prices, automatically switching between the heat pump and boiler to use whichever is most efficient at any given time.
Hybrid systems are an excellent stepping stone towards full decarbonisation. They offer the carbon savings of a heat pump for the majority of the year, while retaining the boiler as a backup during the coldest spells. This makes them particularly well suited to older or less well-insulated homes where a heat pump alone may struggle to meet peak demand.
